It’s been a couple months since I last blogged, so I hate to blog about this, but I think it is yet another learning experience for the kids. Our dog Shiloh has been sick She has AIHA-auto immune hemolytic anemia. We are all still learning about it and what it does, but that’s a whole other story.
This blog is about the kids and how they took to it. I have to say it was hard. We all expected the worst. The vet told us to expect the worst. So we prepped the kids to expect the worst. Well, that was 3 days ago. Fortunately the kids didn’t see what I saw. I was up at 3 am keeping an eye on Shiloh when saw her flat out collapse. That was a long night and a long story and lots of time later we took the kids to go see her… in my wife’s words, “to go say goodbye, just in case.” Well, when we took them in the afternoon, she was a completely different dog. She wasn’t 100%, but much better nonetheless. Doctor says she’s not ready to come home and needs to stay a little longer. The kids were sad. JJ understands a little better about being sick, but Jayden found it difficult to leave Shiloh at the vet. He said that he didn’t even want to see her if he can’t bring her home. We talked him into changing his mind, but he was trying really hard to understand.
The next day came and we checked on her again, again she was better than the day before. Jayden this time was less hesitant to visit. The feeling of excitement was mutual between Shiloh and the kids. Jayden was happy to see her and Shiloh wagged her tail for the first time in a couple of days. I saw her this morning, and even more so. Matter of fact, today I heard her whimper for the first time. You see, when I took her to the vet 3 days ago, she was so weak she couldn’t even make a noise. The doctor poked her with needles and she didn’t even look up. So when I heard her whimper this morning, I knew she was better. And I knew she wanted to come home.
I can’t wait to see her running around with the kids again. I’m sure Lucy misses being able to plop on Shiloh’s bed and pull on her tail.
Good job my CuriousGonzos showing me how truly resilient you are. I'm proud of you.... maybe the next blog will be about happier stuff, like the boys' soccer games, Lucy and her shoes, our pending trip to the Polar Express!

Chino Hills Earthquake 5.4
The day after Jayden's birthday and today's was the kids' first earthquake. I had already left for work and was on the freeway when the earthquake hit, so I completely missed everything. I didn't feel a single thing! But since I was on my way to work, I wasn't home to see how the kids reacted to the earthquake. To top it off, when I finally found out about the quake, which was almost 10 minutes afterwards, I couldn't call home to find out how Steph and the kids were doing since I couldn't get through.
Anyway, all is well at home. As far as earthquakes go, this was not that bad. When I got to work, I used the work phone to check on the wife and kids, and they sound good. Steph sounded completely together and had a game plan on how to keep the kids occupied. Steph said the boys were a little freaked out. JJ sounded more so than Jayden. Lucy on the other hand was sound asleep when I left home, and would've been still asleep except Steph took the precaution of taking her from the bed which was under a ceiling fan... good move! I don't know if would've had the presence of mind to do that. I haven't been home yet, so I'm having visions of Steph rounding up her chicks. After the quake, it has been nonstop news on TV, so Steph put the kids to watch something else to distract them. After I turned on the TV on my dinner break, I found out why...
It was nothing but quake news. And to a freaked out kid like JJ, it would've been more stuff to worry about seeing the destruction that others had while we only had a few pictures fall off the wals and stuff. Anyway, I am absolutely bummed that I could not be home with them to talk to them about it, to comfort them, educate them, all that stuff. But at least I know that they are ok and that Steph has them distracted.
Jayden's birthday - not that Jayden's birthday is an afterthought, but I thought I better blog about it before I forget what happened this weekend. When I took Monday off to spend with Jayden, it was the highlight of my weekend, much liked the time off I took of for JJ's birthday. I asked him what he wanted, and the first thing he said was he wanted Thai tea. How could I not oblige. We shared a large cup on the way to Toys R Us, which was his 2nd request. He insisted he wanted to buy Prowl the Transformer. How does this kid know about Prowl, when I don't really let them watch the show... and he can't even read yet! Well, that was our 2nd stop. Our 3rd stop was to tray and buy Mario Kart... BIG FLOP! It was sold out so I picked up M&M's Kart Racing which I eventually heard just flat out sucks. So I returned it today. His 3rd request was to have lunch at Burger King for some chicken nuggets... Again I didn't want to say no, but we were across the street from McD's. He was happy with the nuggets from there and a happy meal spy gear toy. Our next stop was to meet up with the rest of the family at Jump N Jammin in Arcadia. That was 2 1/2 hours of just jumping and running and all kinds of stuff that would wear out a parent. But who am I to stop the kids from having fun, and they were having lots of it, including Juicy. JJ was all over the place from the video dance floor, do the foam ball cage. Jayden, our b-day boy was even more so. He was nonstop! He even spent quite a bit of time in the jump house. He was so tired, he barely survived the 20 minute ride home for swim class at 6:30. Needless to say, the kids were just about out of gas when they turned in. We were all exhausted, and it started with Jayden's birthday party the day before his birthday and we'll probably be slowly recovering the rest of this week.

July highlights
Oh man, so much has happened since my last post. I should've posted a long time ago. So here's some catch up on June, then I'll move on to July. On JJ's birthday, I took the day off so that I could spend some quality time with him. I asked him what he wanted to do. The only thing he wanted to do was go to this certain pet shop where he saw some sharks. I said, that's it?! So to get his imagination going, I took him to the mall. I said pick out whatever you want, except toys or video games, and we'll make sure to get it for you. He picked out a cool pair Sideout shorts and a shirt that he thought made him look like a rock star! (Here's where I should put his picture with his new duds, but I'm a dud and I don't have those pics.) The only other thing he wanted was a boba or a slushy or something like that. We took him out for some ice cream, but I don't think he's had it yet. I think it's still in the freezer. When we got home, a nice little bbq at his request with our immediate family, and that was nice. By the way, I think I still owe him that boba.
Well, for the joint birthday party for the 2 boys, they got some cool stuff. Lots of toys we haven't opened yet. Lots of clothes. But I think the highlight is the Wii that we all got. I say we all, because the 2 boys are not the only ones that enjoy it. Steph won't admit it, but I'll confess it here, she and I sometimes wait for the boys to hit the sack so that we can bowl on Wii Sports.
On June 28th, I went to the ALA Convention in Anaheim. Yes, I got a lot of ribbing from my brother about me going to a librarian's convention, on my birthday nonetheless. He even harassed me while I was in the convention. Well, that was the funny part. But the really cool part was that I volunteered at ALA. Again another geeky moment, but bare with me. I volunteered for two 2-hour shifts. My first 2-hour shift got me into the convention for free and paid for my parking. My second 2-hour shift got me into Disneyland for free. Not bad if I do say so myself. The absolute best part is that the wife and kids actually carpooled with me to Anaheim in the morning. They spent the day in Disneyland while I did the ALA thing. Then after my pm shift, I met up with themm at Disneyland. Now here's the kicker... I wouldn't consider Star Tours a real roller coaster ride, but for a 3 yr old and a 6 yr old, that's pretty big. JJ had been on it before and he didn't like it, but it was Jayden's first time. I'm glad I was able to join both of them the first time they both enjoyed it! They were all smiles afterwards. They we hit up Buzz Lightyear for what has become a Disneyland ritual of a ride then emailing our picture. By the way, the Disneyland food, souvenirs, and treats were all covered by Rosemary's friend Liz (who got the wife and kids in for free for the day) and mom and pop's generosity of a Disney gift card which paid for a bunch of meals and souvenirs.
That was June... now here's a brief update for July. I hope to add more later with pics. JJ's lost another tooth and is finally getting his 2 front teeth back. Jayden's birthday is coming up and I plan on spending the day with him as well. His highlight is that he got bumped up to level 2 in his swim classes. Good job Jayden! Daddy's really proud of you. Even if you didn't make it, you know that no matter what, Daddy still loves you! Juice is officially walking! Usually she takes 2-3 steps at a time. But today, she walked back and forth between pops and myself on the dining table. Again, another moment where I need to put up pics, but I appear to be failing at having my camera handy. I do hope to post pics soon. I don't want to forget to mention that Juicy is turning 1 on August 1st. I'm so excited to spend time with the kids. I love you guys.

June starts
June starts, now starts the fun. Summer is coming, and if this weekend is any indication of what's in store for the Gonzo household, we are in for it!
JJ - This week is the last week of school for JJ, and it looks like it couldn't have come at any better time. I remember senioritis when I was in High School, but this kid has got kindergartenitis. All he wants to do is stay home, watch tv, and play videogames. We don't even have the "good" videogames he keeps looking for. We have the educational Leapster which will keep him busy for a few minutes. We tell him he has a PSP, which is actually a handheld collection of videogames that his ninong bought for him for Christmas. We limit his time on those, but he doesn't want to be in school anymore. Grandmoms showed him a workbook she bought so that the kids can practice writing when they come over, he called it WORK! Fortunately, we have several friends and family that have pools that we might be able to use over the summer, but other than that, I think this kid is going to be just like his dad... A couch potato.
Jayden - the complete opposite. We had a boys' day out. A coworker graciously gave us tickets to the Kare Youth League Circus at the Rose Bowl. Not like the big ones with animals and trapeze, but still not a bad way to spend some time with your dad and your brother while the girls shopped the day away. He would not sit still to watch the acts in the ring which included a fire eater, some clowns, a knife thrower, and a high wire act that used a motorcycle. JJ and I were pretty much glued to our seats... but what do you expect from some couchpotatoes. But Jayden kept pacing away wanting to do the next thing. I know he needs to be engaged to keep him entertained. And watching a guy spew 30 foot flames out of his mouth was just not exciting enough for him.
Lucy - my little daredevil, is either getting really used to falling on her bottom, or is getting tired of crawling everywhere. Wherever she goes, she gets in the way. If you have a dog, you know what it's like to trip over the dog when you're not expecting them behind you. Accidentally step on their paws and they go yelping away. Well, gotta be more cautious with Lucy. Not only does she follow us around, but she will crawl into the shower or tub with her clothes and pamper on. Not only does she crawl wherever she wants, but she also has started letting go of whatever is helping her stand. Bumps and bruises on her head are proof that she's eager to learn to walk, but I think it's because she's tired of getting left in the room when everybody else walks away. She does a good job keeping up when she's on all fours, I'm not sure I'm ready for her to start walking.... I don't think I have a choice.

mini-milestones
I guess they're mini-milestones to me because I know the kids are just going to be growing my leaps and bounds and I won't know what hit me by the time it happens. Anyway, JJ lost his 2 front teeth today. Jayden started preschool. Lucy is crawling and starting to learn how to walk.
JJ - after days of wiggling his teeth it finally happened. He lost his front teeth. Not just one, but both is 2 front top teeth on the same day. He lost one while he was in school. Then he got home and wouldn't stop complaining that the other one hurt. Well, quick thinking mom put some orajel on what was still attached to his mouth. Shortly after, JJ grabbed and yanked! Good job Kuya! I'm proud of you for being so brave and doing it yourself. Apparently JJ hadn't eaten all day since his tooth hurt. Well, the first thing he asked for after his tooth fell out was food, probably after the napkin to hold the tooth and the blood. Funny kid!
Jayden - Lucky me, I didn't have to work on Jayden's first day of preschool. So I was able to take him to school and pick him up. I'm hoping that it was going to be the first of many times that I can join him for his milestones. He didn't even cry on his first day. I was so proud. I don't think I've shared this with many and definitely not in writing... Jayden is our only one that didn't nurse with mom. Well, Jayden and I developed a special bond when he was a newborn. I thought it was fair that since Steph took care of the night feedings with JJ, that I should with Jayden. I'm glad I did it, but boy am I glad that's over. Now I get up in the middle of the night to catch other stuff... nightmares, upset stomachs, kids falling off the bed. Other parents know exactly what I'm talking about.
Lucy - well little Lucy is learning crawling and is starting to pick herself up off the floor. Sometimes she thinks she can walk, then lets got of whatever she's holdin on to. Then sometimes she falls on her nice padded pamper, and other times she falls on her not so padded noggin. She's a tough girl. She cries a little, wants to be held a little, then wants to try again. I guess she gets that from her mom.
It's my last week of school. I'm taking the summer off. So I hope that means that I can spend more time with the kids. I think the best part is that Steph isn't going to be going to school either, so we can all hang out together. I'll have to remember to add pics to this post and will hopefully be posting more often.
